Saleh Ahmed

As an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist, Dr. Saleh Ahmed asks critical questions for understanding complex and dynamic interrelationships between climate and society. He is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Ahmed received an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Arid Lands Resource Sciences with a minor in Global Change from the University of Arizona. He also has a Graduate Certificate in Science Communication from the same institution. His previous degrees are on environmental sociology, regional science, and urban and rural planning.

Dr. Ahmed’s current research focuses on how legacies of colonization, economic forces, and environmental change are shaping land and climate justice challenges among racial, ethnic, and Indigenous populations. Most of his research are solution-oriented and respond to societal needs that have real-world impacts and policy relevance. He is active on research and institutional collaborations in Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Somalia, Peru, and Honduras.
